Services Offered at Penn Medicine Becker ENT and Allergy in Yardley, PA

Allergies

A person’s immune system can sometimes overreact to a substance that is relatively harmless, such as pollen, mold, or pet dander. When the body begins to attack a harmless substance, an allergic reaction occurs. Some of the symptoms of allergies can include a runny nose, itchy eyes and throat, sneezing, and congestion. Some people develop a rash or, if the reaction is severe, go into anaphylactic shock, which can be life-threatening.

The allergy specialists and immunologists at Becker ENT and Allergy can determine what you are allergic to and can recommend the best course of treatment. Our team works with children and adults in Yardley, PA, offering treatments such as allergy shots to help reduce the immune response and reduce the occurrence of allergy symptoms.

Ears and Hearing Loss

Hearing loss can make it difficult to go about your daily life and enjoy everyday activities. You might not be able to hear conversations at normal volume or can even have difficulty hearing warning sounds, such as smoke alarms or sirens. Whether they develop slowly or suddenly, problems with your hearing or ears can negatively affect your quality of life.

The physicians and audiologists at Penn Medicine Becker ENT and Allergy in Yardley treat ear infections, ringing in the ears (tinnitus), and ear wax buildup, along with other issues that affect the ears and hearing. Treating hearing or ear problems as soon as they develop can help you hear better and reduces the chances of developing long-lasting damage.

Head and Neck

A variety of diseases and disorders can affect the head and neck, from sleep apnea to issues with the thyroid gland, from swallowing issues to head and neck cancers. The otolaryngologists at Becker ENT and Allergy work together to evaluate your concerns and make an accurate diagnosis.

Once a diagnosis is made, they’ll work with you to determine the best course of treatment. Treatments for cancer of the head or neck can include chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. Treatments for thyroid disorders can include medication to make the gland less active, removal of the gland, or thyroid replacement medication.

Nose and Sinus

Sinusitis is one of the most common medical conditions in the U.S., affecting around 15% of the population. Sinus problems can affect your productivity and make it difficult for you to focus on your day-to-day routines. If you have chronic sinusitis, you might find yourself visiting your doctor regularly for prescriptions and medical guidance.

Some of the symptoms of chronic sinusitis include post-nasal drip, congestion, and sinus headaches. The team of specialists at Becker ENT and Allergy in Bucks County, PA will review your symptoms with you and recommend the treatment that will provide you with the most relief. Treatments for nose and sinus problems can range from medications to surgery. Surgical procedures might include septoplasty, turbinate surgery, or sinuplasty.

Pediatric Ear, Nose & Throat

Children often experience problems in the ears, nose, or throat, such as acid reflux, recurring ear infections, and allergies. Kids can also have sleep disorders, such as snoring and sleep apnea. Left untreated, pediatric ear, nose, and throat issues can affect a child’s quality of life, making it difficult for them to get the sleep they need and potentially affecting their ability to do well in school.

The pediatric ENT specialists at Penn Medicine Becker ENT and Allergy understand that kids need special care and compassion from their physicians. Our team treats pediatric patients like they were our own children, helping them feel comfortable and safe during examinations and treatment.

Sleep Apnea

If you’re sleeping seven or eight hours a night but still wake up feeling drained, you might have sleep apnea. People with sleep apnea will stop and start breathing during sleep. They might wake up gasping for air or awaken frequently throughout the night. Loud snoring often accompanies sleep apnea.

You deserve to get a full night’s sleep. The board-certified otolaryngologists at Becker ENT and allergy can diagnose sleep apnea and recommend treatments that will help you breathe easier as you sleep. Treatments can range from losing weight to using a CPAP breathing machine. Surgical options might also be appropriate in some cases.

Snoring

Even if snoring isn’t a sign of sleep apnea, it can be a significant cause for concern. Snoring can disrupt your sleep, not to mention the sleep of anyone who shares a bedroom with you. It can make it difficult to concentrate during the day and might affect your personal relationships. The Becker ENT and Allergy’s otolaryngologists can help you find an effective treatment for snoring that helps you save your sleep and your relationships.

Voice and Swallowing

Voice disorders can make it difficult to speak, can make your voice weaker than normal, or can change the way your voice sounds. Swallowing disorders, or dysphagia, can make it difficult to swallow, causing you to gag when you eat or drink.

Becker ENT and Allergy has a team of speech-language pathologists at our location in Yardley, PA. Our speech-language specialists can diagnose your problem and develop a treatment plan to help you get your voice or ability to comfortably swallow back.
