Who is Jina Nam?
Jina Nam, MA, MS, CCC-SLP, is a Speech-Language Pathologist specializing in the evaluation and treatment of voice, upper airway, and swallowing disorders. Education and Training
Jina completed her Master of Science in Communicative Sciences and Disorders at New York University, with a concentration in the Bilingual Extension (TSSLD-BE). She also holds an Advanced Certificate in Vocal Pedagogy, along with a Master of Arts in Music Education, reflecting her deep expertise in both the science and artistry of the voice.
Jina completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology with a minor in Theater Arts, and furthered her performance training studying musical theatre at the CAP21 Musical Theatre Conservatory in New York City.
She pursued advanced specialty training in vocology as a graduate of the Summer Vocology Institute at the University of Utah’s National Center for Voice and Speech, where she studied under world-renowned voice scientist Dr. Ingo Titze.
Clinical Training and Expertise
Jina completed her clinical training at New York City’s leading institutions, including the NYU Langone Voice Center, NYU Rusk Rehabilitation, and the Sean Parker Institute for the Voice at Weill Cornell Medicine. These experiences provided her with advanced multidisciplinary training in the evaluation and treatment of complex voice and swallowing disorders.
Professional Background
Before becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist, Jina performed extensively in musical theatre throughout New York City and across the United States. Her first-hand experience as a professional performer gives her unique insight into the demands placed on the voice, particularly for singers, actors, educators, and other professional voice users.
In addition to her clinical and performing work, Jina has been teaching for over 15 years and currently serves on the voice and acting faculty at Marymount Manhattan College and Pace University, where she works closely with developing performers and emerging professional artists.Jina is recognized for her contributions to the field and was awarded the ASHA Distinguished Early Career Professional Award. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges medical voice therapy with performance-based expertise, helping patients regain vocal function, confidence, and longevity. She provides specialized care for multilingual patients (English and Korean) and patients seeking gender-affirming voice and communication support, in addition to her work with professional voice users.
